Fall Athletics Recap and Postseason Update

Blazers Girls Soccer Advances to State Quarterfinals - Time to Rally!
The Bush Blazers girls soccer team has kicked off their playoff run in style, delivering a standout performance and cruising past the Naches Valley Rangers in a perfect fall season matchup under the floodlights. After feeling out their opponents early in the game, it was Flora T. ’27 who broke the deadlock, setting the tone for a commanding night on the field. Her first-half goal paved the way, and soon after, Kate V. N. ’28 finished a perfectly placed corner from Flora, sending the Blazers into the break with a solid lead.

The second half saw the Blazers pick up right where they left off. Flora netted her second goal of the game, and Avery S. ’28 followed up with a calm finish off a well-executed counterattack, assisted yet again by Flora, stretching the lead to 4-0. While the Rangers managed a late consolation goal, the Blazers bench was already in celebration mode, confident and relaxed as the final whistle approached.

Blazers Cross Country Shines at State Championships
The Blazers Cross Country team closed out an impressive season with a stellar performance at the state championships, saving their best effort for the biggest stage. Led by a powerhouse senior class, the Blazers delivered inspiring performances that made coaches, teammates, and fans proud.

The boys’ team claimed the second-place trophy for the second consecutive year, underscoring their consistency and determination. Duncan F.-S. ’25 and Benjamin H. ’25 were standout performers, finishing third and seventh respectively and earning All-State honors. They were joined by Kai A. ’24 (23rd), Barack A. '25 (26th), Lincoln N. ’25 (31st), Alexander H. ’25 (33rd), and Leo N. ’27 (70th), who collectively helped secure the team’s spot on the podium.

“It was so fun to see the boys’ big smiles after the race. They knew they’d left everything on the course and completed a perfect race,” said Athletic Director Jo Ito. “Duncan broke his own school record, and Benjamin had the race of his life. Both finished ahead of all the Cedar Park runners who took the team title. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of the entire team. Every runner gave their all, and we couldn’t be prouder. Shoutout to our seniors—this group of runners stands as the most accomplished in our school’s history.”

The girls’ team also delivered a strong showing. Elise F. ’25 left her mark on the championship stage, finishing sixth overall and securing a spot on the podium with All-State honors. Ryan E. ’27 (52nd), Elaine Z. ’28 (92nd), Isabelle O. ’27 (109th), Scarlett N. ’28 (116th), Charlotte D. ’25 (125th), and Caroline H. ’26 (140th) all contributed to a respectable 11th-place team finish.

“The girls performed exceptionally well at state,” said Ito. “It was fantastic to see the seniors cap off their season with a strong performance and to witness the underclassmen stepping up on such a competitive stage. They’ll be able to build on this experience for years to come. A huge thank you to our XC coaching staff for creating such a fun, inclusive, and competitive environment.”

Girls Volleyball -
Blazers’ Thrilling Playoff Run Ends with Hard-Fought Battle Against Granite Falls
The Blazers girls volleyball team wrapped up an impressive playoff journey with a tough loss to Granite Falls in the consolation championship game. Despite the result, the Blazers showed heart and grit throughout their postseason campaign, including standout wins over U Prep and South Whidbey that energized their fanbase.

Facing the Granite Falls Tigers in what was their fourth game in six days, the Blazers left everything on the court but ultimately ran out of steam, just missing their third consecutive road victory. The coaching staff praised the team’s thrilling playoff run and the resilience displayed by every player. Special recognition goes to the seniors, who set the standard and rose to the occasion time after time. This season was marked by unforgettable moments, and the Blazers have much to be proud of as they look forward to building on this momentum.

Boys Tennis:
The boys tennis season wrapped up in mid-October at the Emerald Sound Conference Tournament. The Blazers were well-represented by Devin S. ’28 and Riley C. ’27 in singles, along with doubles teams Teoman C. ’25/Charlie H. ’25 and William W. ’25/Steinar F. ’26. William and Steinar advanced to the second day of competition after impressive wins over South Whidbey and Overlake, but ultimately fell to a strong University Prep duo. The coaching staff is grateful for the team’s strong senior leadership and the dedication and enthusiasm shown by the underclassmen, setting a solid foundation for the future.

Boys Ultimate:
The boys ultimate season came to a close with a hard-fought loss in the conference playoff wildcard game against Overlake. This year’s squad, bolstered by the return of all players (no seniors on last year’s team), showed the value of experience and chemistry. After going winless in the regular season last year, the Blazers bounced back with an impressive 5-7 overall record, highlighted by big wins against U Prep and Seattle Academy (non-league). In their final regular season game, the Blazers went toe-to-toe with Northwest, a perennial ultimate powerhouse. They jumped out to an early two-point lead and battled until the very end. Although they ultimately fell short, the game showcased their ability to compete with the best in the conference. Congratulations to Coach Max for being named Emerald Sound Conference Coach of the Year, and to Kenzo Y. ’25 (1st Team) and Rafe F. ’25 (2nd Team) for earning All-Conference honors. The future looks bright for Blazers Ultimate!

Boys Golf:
The boys’ golf team capped off the regular season with an impressive undefeated record of 5-0-1, marking their first winning season in recent years. Ten players shot qualifying scores for the playoffs, which will take place in the spring. Justin C. ’28 led the charge, earning solo medalist honors three times and tying for medalist honors twice. With the Emerald Sound Conference Championship tournament set for May, the Blazers are poised for an exciting postseason run, with several strong state-qualifying candidates in the mix.
