Blood Drive with BloodworksNW - Thursday, April 10

The Bush Upper School Medical Club has been working with Bloodworks Northwest and will host a blood drive on the Bush campus Thursday, April 10. Washington State is facing a severe blood shortage, and organizations like BloodWorks Northwest are always in need of donors to help save lives.

Blood Drive with Bloodworks Northwest
Date: Thursday, April 10
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Location: Community Room
Who Can Donate: Students (16 years and older), staff and faculty, parents and guardians

Required steps to donate
:
Before you donate...
  • Bring a photo ID to appointment

Sign up for a donation time slot here, the appointment will take up to an hour and includes some added rest and snack time.

Please note: For students who want to donate, please be sure to check in with your teachers if you will be missing class.
Donating blood is safe, easy, and can save up to three lives! However, only about 10% of people out of the 38% eligible donors in the US actually give blood, and usually only about one or two times a year despite being able to donate up to six times a year. Since 25% of people need a blood transfusion at some point in their lives, the blood supply is very limited.

WHAT ELSE TO KNOW BEFORE DONATING

You must be at least sixteen years old and at least 114 lbs (125 for first-time female donors) to donate, anyone under eighteen must have written parental consent. The full list of restrictions can be found on the BloodWorks Northwest website. All donors must complete this consent form and bring the signed form, and a photo ID, with them to their appointment (forms are also available in the Upper School office)

Donating blood can be scary for people who haven't done it before, but there are simple ways to keep yourself safe and healthy! Donors must stay hydrated by drinking lots of fluids in the days leading up to and after a blood draw. Eating before and after donating is also important, and snacks will be available in the Community Room after donating.

If you have any questions about the blood drive please reach out to School Wellness Coordinator Happy Salinas-Santos
