Lower School Service Club - Friday, April 4

Save the date: Lower School Service Club - Friday, April 4 at 2:30 p.m.

In honor of Earth Day, our next Lower School Service Club gathering will focus on the use of single-use plastics and how we can take meaningful action to care for our planet. Led by Upper School Student Tessa D. ‘26, students will have the opportunity to create posters raising awareness about plastic usage and collaborate on a unique art installation made from the candy wrappers and chip bags we've collected.

Why does this matter?
  • Every year, over 380 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide—half of that is for single-use purposes.

  • Plastic takes hundreds of years to break down, and much of it ends up in landfills or the ocean, harming wildlife and polluting ecosystems.

  • It’s estimated that by 2050, there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish by weight if we don’t act now.

  • Most plastic film, like bread bags, and produce bags, can't be recycled in regular curbside bins—but services like Ridwell help ensure it gets properly processed and kept out of the landfill.

In addition to our event, we’ve launched a Plastic Film Drive in partnership with Ridwell! Plastic film (like bread bags, produce bags, and ziplock) often can’t be recycled through regular curbside service, but Ridwell helps divert it from the landfill. Throughout March and April, we encourage the entire Lower School Bush community to start saving their plastic film at home and bring it in to be recycled. While the plastic film drive focused on Lower School, there is a way for the K-12 community to participate.

You can help Bush win plastic film pick up from Ridwell. When 10 families (friends or neighbors) join Ridwell using the Bush specific link, Ridwell will provide ongoing plastic film pickups for our school community! Sign up with this special link to make: get.ridwell.com/bush

Let’s come together to protect our planet—one piece of plastic at a time!
