Basketball: Girls Varsity Historic Season Recognized with ESC Awards

An historic year for the Bush Girls Varsity basketball team continued as the team was well-represented in the Emerald Sound Conference awards this week.

The Coho League champions were headlined by Kate H. ’25, who was named the All Conference Most Valuable Player. A four-year member on the team, Kate, who is a force inside and outside the paint with her size, has helped guide the Blazers to a 13-1 regular season conference record and a deep run in the postseason. The Blazers will look to punch their ticket to the state tournament for the first time since 2006 on Thursday, February 20, as they host Bear Creek at 7:15 p.m. Kate leads the team with 218 points and 164 rebounds this season.

Teammate Kara M. ’25, also a four-year member, was named First-Team All-Conference and has been the steady rock for the Blazers as the point guard leading the team with 59 assists. Three-year member Sanvi A. ’26 was selected to the ESC Coho Division Second Team. Head Coach Sara Fischer was named the Coach of the Year, while Elise F. ’25, also a four-year member, was named Honorable Mention.

“The girls basketball team has had an exciting season, going 13-1 on the regular season and winning the Coho division,” Associate Athletic Director Mel Harrow said. “They’ve put in hard work, and set out on their goals to keep this season going as long as possible. Seeing the other coaches around the league recognize Kate and the Blazer coaches is the cherry on top of a great season.”

On the boys’ side,  Paul H. ’25 and Zane Z. ’28 were both selected to the First Team All-Conference. The two have helped guide the Blazers to a 9-8 overall record and 5-7 in conference play. The boys will travel to Overlake on Thursday, February 20 and look to advance to the state tournament for the first time in twenty-five years.
