Lower School Reading Week: Monday, March 31-Friday, April 4

Bush School students are avid readers and nothing brings our community together more than great books! To celebrate this culture of reading, we will hold our second annual Reading Week. This year we will focus on nonfiction reading. There is so much knowledge being built by our students every day as they engage with rich, diverse informational texts! This event-filled week will include several fun reading themed days, a book drive, a variety of reading challenges, and an author visit from a local nonfiction author, Amanda Ablert. Along with our Lower School celebrations, the Bush School Book Fair will occur Tuesday, April 1 through Thursday, April 3 in the Community Room. Read more about daily events your child can participate in below.

Many of the activities are optional ones that students can choose to participate in independently, but there are a few activities and events that students will participate in with their classes.

Weeklong Optional Activities:
  • Log your reading minutes to reach our school wide goal of 20,000 minutes of reading in one week! Reading logs will be provided to teachers. On Friday, April 4 we will calculate all the minutes read from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade to see if we reached our goal!

  • Classroom Door Decoration Challenge: Classes and teachers all over the Lower School will display their favorite nonfiction topics to read about. Students will have a scavenger hunt that can only be completed by visiting each door and learning some fun facts about each topic.

  • Real or Fake: Each day at the Reading Week table on the second floor, students can cast their votes for the news story of the day. Is it a real new story or just made up?

  • Daily Guess the Teacher Reader: Daily mystery teacher readers will be featured at the Reading Week table on the second floor. Stop by to see if you can figure out who each reader is!
